John Cockerill Equips WDP With an Energy System to Decarbonize VPDs Last-mile Distribution Site

WDP chose John Cockerill to decarbonize VPD Transports & Logistics‘s last-mile distribution site in Zellik (Belgium) and transform it into a green energy and mobility hub.

John Cockerill equips this site with over 3,000 PV panels, an energy storage battery also used for grid services to generate extra revenues, 20 charging stations for e-trucks, vans and individual cars (also for public access).

The whole system will be managed by our Energy Management System (EMS), developed by our engineers and which enables an optimization of the entire installation and enables to make judicious choices in terms of energy management.

A first important step has been reached as 3,000 photovoltaic panels have already been installed. Electrical and civil works are ongoing, and commissioning will take place this summer.

With this project, John Cockerill will make the WDP site more self-sufficient, allowing green and competitive mobility to VPD’s last-mile logistics specialist. This project perfectly meets the current challenges of our times in the energy transition context.
