Enel Green Power has been nominated “Investor of the Year” for the South Africa-Italy Business Excellence Awards. The acknowledgement, awarded to EGP within the first edition of the South African Week in Italy (Milan, October 3-16), confirms the importance of the Enel renewable company’s presence in this country and the appreciation for the development of its activities in the field of solar PV and wind power.
The South African Week in Italy, organised by South Africa’s General Consulate in Milan together with the Italian-South African Chamber of Commerce in Johannesburg, gathered together entrepreneurs, consultants, institutions, commercial operators, authorities and private individuals involved in the development of commercial relations between the two countries. For EGP the event was attended by EGP’s Head of Human Resources in South Africa Zoliswa Tshetshe.

Enel Green Power is the largest private player in the renewable energy field in the whole of Africa and the Rainbow Nation is a strategic element within the continent’s development plan. EGP won 705 MW of wind power capacity in the fourth phase of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), bringing the total solar and wind capacity awarded to the company in public tenders to more than 1200 MW. In fact, the five wind farms assigned in June will be added to the 10 MW of the Upington solar PV plant that EGP is already operating in this country and to the 513 MW from projects for which 20-year long energy supply contracts secured in the third phase of the REIPPPP tender in 2013have been signed with Eskom.
