Westinghouse Extends Firstenergy Alliance

Westinghouse Electric Company renewed a long-term alliance agreement with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company. The alliance agreement includes a commitment to provide outage services for the Westinghouse-designed pressurized water reactors at Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station in Shippingport, Pa.

The award covers a five-year period beginning in 2016 and includes a renewal option. The agreement provides for refueling, reactor coolant pump and steam generator services and builds on the long history Westinghouse and FirstEnergy have of partnering on technology improvements. Through this agreement Westinghouse will introduce to Beaver Valley its Zephyr® Advanced Acquisition System for steam generator inspections.

The Shippingport, Pa., location that now houses the Beaver Valley Station formerly was home to the world’s first commercial pressurized water reactor, supplied by Westinghouse in 1957.
