Four engineering students from the University of Antofagasta in Chile are attending a training course on geothermal organised by Enel Green Power at the Larderello plants in Tuscany, as part of the Year of Italy in Latin America. In Chile, EGP is building the first geothermal plant in this country and in the whole of Latin America.
From Latin America to Italy to study geothermal technologies. Four engineering students from the University of Antofagasta are attending a three-month training course organised by Enel Green Power as part of the Year of Italy in Latin America, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The four engineering students, three of them Chilean and one Peruvian, attend the main university of the city of Antofagasta, in the region of the same name, where Enel Green Power is achieving some of its most recent renewable development projects in Chile. In particular, EGP started the construction on July 14 of its record-breaking Cerro Pabell?n plant, the first facility using geothermal technologies in the whole of Latin America and the first one ever built at 4,500 metres above sea level.

EGP will build the plant together with the Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (ENAP), and the expertise it has gained in this field, combined with the path that led to the opening of the Chilean construction site show that the company is the only geothermal operator that can cover the entire project cycle, from the exploration phase to plant management.
The training period in Italy began for the four students with a welcoming ceremony at Enel’s Auditorium on Viale Regina Margherita in Rome, where Enel Green Power’s greetings marked the beginning of the three-month course, which will consist in alternating classroom teaching and practical sessions in the field. Most of the course will be conducted at the geothermal hub in Larderello (Tuscany). The four students are now working in what is recognized as the world’s geothermal capital, and on October 13, they also met the secretary of the Chilean government’s National Energy Commission Andrés Romero, who visited EGP’s plants in Larderello to witness firsthand the expertise and skills that the company is transferring from Italy to Chile in order to complete the Cerro Pabell?n plant.
