ScottishPower Energy Networks, Iberdrola’s distribution company in the United Kingdom, has received approval to build a new electricity substation in Redshaw, South Lanarkshire. This project will increase capacity and strengthen the transmission network, supporting the delivery of clean, renewable energy to homes, schools and businesses.
Scotland’s electricity transmission network was originally built in the 1920s and, although it has evolved over time, the network in the south is now close to reaching its maximum capacity. In addition, around 2 GW of new renewable energy is expected to be connected to the network in this area soon.
Construction work is due to begin later this year, with the aim of completing the project by 2031.
