Iberdrola Obtains Environmental Permit for its First Repowering in Spain

Iberdrola has taken another step towards the energy transition and has obtained the environmental permit for its first repowering in Spain, in Castilla-La Mancha, at the Molar del Molinar wind farm. It is also continuing to repower another onshore wind farm in the same region, which will reduce the number of wind turbines installed in the region by 117 and increase the energy production of the facilities by an average of 30%.

The machines used in the repowering will have a unit power that is up to six times that of the first wind turbines built in Spain more than two decades ago. This is what repowering is all about: maximising energy production and increasing the efficiency of wind farms. Old turbines will be replaced with more advanced and powerful ones. These will produce more energy than the old ones, so fewer units will be needed.
