National Grid proudly endorsed S. 535, the Energy Efficiency Improvement Act of 2015, authored by Senators Rob Portman and Jeanne Shaheen and signed into law yesterday. National Grid has worked closely with the Senators on ways to advance energy efficiency strategies, especially in their capacities as honorary co-chairs of the Alliance to Save Energy of which National Grid is a board member.
This cost-effective, bipartisan measure will provide real value to our customers and communities in New York and New England. We administer some of the most productive energy efficiency programs in the nation, and the states in which we operate consistently rank in the top five across the country, according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy. This law will enable building owners, tenants, and the federal government to lower energy bills and improve the environment, through market-driven approaches.
This is an important step forward, but there is more work to be done on energy policy. It is encouraging to see Congress working in a bipartisan manner on this law and other proposals that will address energy efficiency, energy infrastructure, government accountability, workforce development, and supply issues.
