EDF Power Solutions Ceases Development of the Gunaa Sicaru Wind Project in Mexico

EDF power solutions Mexico has decided to cease the development process of the Gunaa Sicarú wind project, which commenced in 2011 and was proposed to be located in the municipalities of Unión Hidalgo and La Ventosa, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. This decision follows more than a decade of dedicated efforts to bring the project to fruition.

Despite EDF power solutions Mexico holding a coverage contract for the sale of electricity to the Federal Electricity Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE)), as well as securing the necessary generation and interconnection permits, Gunaa Sicarú faced insurmountable challenges.  Chief among these was the cancellation of the direct current transmission line by the Mexican government, a critical infrastructure component for connecting the project to the national grid.

CFE ultimately cancelled the coverage contract for the sale of electricity, leaving EDF power solutions Mexico to make the difficult decision to conclude the development of the Project.
