Carbon2Nature Brazil, a joint venture of Neoenergia, Iberdrola’s subsidiary in Brazil, and Carbon2Nature, a company of the Iberdrola Group dedicated to the development of nature-based solutions, has just partnered with Biomas through an alliance as co-developer of the Muçununga Project. This initiative aims to restore around 1,200 hectares of Atlantic Forest across land distributed in eight municipalities in southern Bahia. The investment will be approximately €8.5 million.
Over the next two years, Biomas and Carbon2Nature Brazil will plant around 2 million seedlings of more than 70 native species, such as araçá, copaíba, guapuruvu, yellow ipê and jatobá. This great diversity ensures the recovery of ecological corridors, benefiting the natural ecosystem and increasing the project’s value.
In addition to restoring the ecosystem and recovering biodiversity, the project will support local socio-economic development and is expected to generate 80 direct jobs in the region.
