Trina Storage Powers One of UK's Largest Solar Projects With Elementa System at Tiln Farm

The solar PV and storage co-location site will help to future-proof the UK's energy grid, and was recently visited by Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Trina Storage, a leading provider of integrated energy storage solutions, has announced that the photovoltaic (PV) and storage colocation site, Tiln Farm, has been energised and is now operational. The project, located in Birmingham, UK, is owned by Schroders Greencoat and was constructed by METLEN Energy & Metals, a trusted EPC contractor in the renewable energy sector.

Tiln Farm features Trina Storage’s vertically integrated battery energy storage system (BESS), Elementa. It will provide more than 50MWh of storage capacity to enhance grid flexibility, improve arbitrage capabilities and support the UK’s energy stability.

This BESS system features LFP cells integrated into Elementa, Trina Storage DC integrated solution, representing significant benefits in quality control, seamless component integration, as well as long-term performance and reliability. The Elementa system was chosen for its advanced safety features, including a robust fire suppression system, making it highly reliable for long-term operation.

Matt Tingle, Investment Director, Solar and Storage at Schroders Greencoat, said: “The successful commissioning of Tiln Farm marks a major achievement. Collaborating with METLEN and Trina Storage has allowed us to create a project that not only delivers immediate benefits to the grid but also sets the foundation for long-term energy resilience, including supporting more renewables on the system.”

“If the UK’s energy grid is to become more flexible, stable and fit for purpose, it’s critical that battery storage is a core element. By implementing battery storage co-located alongside solar, we’re helping contribute to the ongoing expansion of renewable energy whilst maximising available grid capacity.”

Gabriele Buccini, Head of Storage at Trinasolar Europe, added: “Delivering and commissioning Elementa in UK and across Europe represents a significant moment for us as a company, and we’re pleased to be marking this occasion with a valued customer and our EPC partner, and we look forward to seeing this project thrive.

“It was also an honour to have Ed Miliband MP, the Secretary of State for the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, visit the site. He expressed his enthusiasm for solar and the importance of sites like Tiln Farm for the future of energy security, highlighting the crucial role that renewable energy and storage is playing as we shift towards green solutions.”
