Trina Storage Elementa 2 Recognised for Bankability, Reliability and Safety by DNV

  • Report confirms consistent performance and global deployment of liquid-cooling battery energy storage system (BESS)

Trina Storage, a leading global energy storage solution provider, has received a positive endorsement of its Elementa 2 liquid-cooling battery energy storage system (BESS) in a report from DNV, the independent energy expert and assurance organisation. The report recognises the bankability, reliability, performance and successful global deployment of Elementa 2, underlining its achievements so far and its potential for future utility-scale applications.

The Elementa 2 platform is designed for various grid-connected applications, available in both 4.073MWh and 5.015MWh rated capacity. DNV's comprehensive analysis specifically assessed the performance, safety, and reliability, of Elementa 2’s 4MWh version, as well as Trina Storage's ability to deliver and service the system. A report on the 5MWh version will be available soon.

The report commends Trina Storage for having already deployed nearly 7GWh of energy storage globally, with its annual production capacity now exceeding 12GWh. The document lauds the technical aspects of Elementa 2, including its modular design, advanced lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells, and industry-leading high energy density. Elementa 2’s liquid-cooling system, robust fire suppression, and multi-level battery management systems (BMS) were also recognized for contributing to its high performance and safety.

Further, the report confirms the system’s compliance with international standards – including UL 1973, UL 9540, IEC 62619 and IEC 63056 based on rigorous tests, including the UL 9540A thermal runaway fire propagation test. These attributes, combined with Trina Storage’s flexible warranty options and robust customer service infrastructure, confirm Elementa 2’s bankability for global markets.

The report highlights Trina Storage’s automated production facilities, including the super factory in Chuzhou, ensuring high manufacturing standards and future-proofed capabilities.

Gabriele Buccini, Head of Trina Storage, said: “We’re extremely pleased to receive this report from DNV, which represents a major endorsement of Elementa 2’s performance, bankability, safety and manufacturing quality. This positions us well to continue delivering large-scale energy storage projects and aligns with our vision to create and distribute solutions that will help drive the world towards a net-zero future.”
