Fragrance Creators' Statement on Fragrance Industry Efforts to Meet Increased Need for Cleaning & Sanitizing Products

Fragrance Creators Association is proactively engaging with the Trump Administration, Congress and the Congressional Fragrance Caucus, and its industry partners to bring forth solutions that support the increased manufacture of essential cleaning and sanitizing products during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

A source of tens of thousands of U.S. jobs and a strong economic driver, fragrance is a critical formulation input for a wide variety of products, including hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, soaps, detergents, and surface cleaners.

Fragrance not only imparts scent, but masks odors in products that would otherwise carry unpleasant smells that can discourage use. In addition to delivering a number of meaningful benefits, fragrance encourages the proper use of cleaning and sanitizing products — a critical public health need. These fragranced products are used by people at home and in healthcare facilities, stores and schools, food processing plants, and a myriad of industrial and commercial settings every day.

Fragrance Creators' members are adapting their production schedules to help ensure fragrances for safe and effective cleaning and sanitizing products are available. "In an act of true responsible corporate citizenship, fragrance houses and finished product manufactures have come together for public health," said Farah Ahmed, President & CEO, Fragrance Creators. "It is our duty as their association to work tirelessly, doing everything in our power to support their efforts to protect health and mitigate the burden on the U.S. healthcare system."

Fragrance Creators took early action this week, issuing a letter from Ahmed announcing the association's COVID-19 preparedness plan, designed to protect the health of its staff and members and to reduce undue strain on the health system.
