NEC Expands Footprint in Chile with 2 MW Project in Arica

In cooperation with NEC Chile, NEC Energy Solutions announced today it is expanding its presence in Chile with the commissioning of a 2 MW, 2 MWh lithium ion battery energy storage system for ENGIE Energía Chile. This project is the first energy storage system operated by the ENGIE group in the region.

This marks the third project in Chile for NEC Energy Solutions since 2009, which has installed 32 MW of grid energy storage solutions in that country. This new system will be located in Arica, in Northern Chile and will be connected to an existing substation. The energy storage system will provide spinning reserve and has the capacity to provide other ancillary services to help with the integration of PV and wind projects.

“We are very pleased that ENGIE selected NEC as their partner for its first energy storage project in Latin America and hope that this is a first step for a long-lasting cooperation for the development of energy storage projects,” said Herwig Ragossnig, Head of Business Development for Smart Energy in Latin America.
