Alstom Will Upgrade The Turbine at Ligga Hydro Power Station

Alstom Renewable Sweden AB has in fierce competition been chosen by Vattenfall Vattenkraft AB to upgrade one of three turbines at the Ligga power station in Luleå River in northern Sweden. The Ligga power station has 327 MW of installed capacity and an annual production of 1 656 GWh, which corresponds to an average annual electricity consumption of 83 800 Swedish homes.

Alstom Renewable Sweden AB will carry out a model testing in Vattenfalls turbine laboratory in Älvkarleby in Sweden. The model test is performed to verify the technical performance guarantees for the new hydro turbine to be delivered by Alstom to the power station. Alstom will also supply a new pilot bearing and oil pressure system to the hydro turbine. In addition to the new parts to be delivered, Alstom will also dismantle, rebuild and re-assemble existing equipment on the turbine.

“We have chosen Alstom as supplier for this important modernization project based on a combination of the technical solution offered and a competitive price”, says Christer Ljunggren MD for Vattenfall Nordic Hydro Power.
