New Power Contract Between Landsvirkjun and Advania Data Centers

Landsvirkjun and the high-tech company Advania Data Centers have signed a power contract for the supply of 30 MW to the data center at Fitjar in Reykjanesbær. Efforts are being made to expand the data center and the IT provider expects to triple its operations. Fifty employees are expected to work at the data centers and the estimated turnover for the year is approximately six billion.

The agreement allows Advania Data Centers to meet the ever-increasing demand for super-computer power and specialist services in blockchain technology.

Renewable energy and the Icelandic climate contribute to creating favourable conditions for the data center at Fitjar.  The fact that the data center utilises the cold air to cool equipment is one of the things that attracts foreign customers to Advania Data Centers. This natural cooling means that the centers do not need to utilise large amounts of energy to cool the equipment and it is therefore more efficient to operate the centers in Iceland than it would be elsewhere.
