Booz Allen Hamilton, and Siemens to Conduct Microgrid Feasibility Study

Partners Power Analytics (PA), Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) and Siemens announced last Thursday that the Village of Sherburne, NY has awarded them a contract to study the feasibility of installing a community microgrid.

In late April, Sherburne became one of the first five communities to win $100,000 in microgrid funding through New York State's NY Prize competition. PA, BAH, and Siemens helped the central New York village prepare its successful application, and have been retained to conduct the initial development steps. They will study Sherburne's plan for the microgrid to provide energy reliability and resiliency to the village's fire and police departments, the Village Hall, a health clinic, and a wastewater treatment plant.

"As an innovator and pioneer in the concept of a microgrid, we believe that the value to Sherburne residents and business will exceed their expectations," said Kevin Meagher, Power Analytics Chief Operating Officer. "We are excited about the opportunity to help the community secure their energy future and to take this next step in the vision of New York for the future of energy."

PA and BAH will work with Sherburne to determine the most efficient way to develop its microgrid, and Siemens will aid in construction. The project will include a combined heat and power generator and renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaics.

"Sherburne along with our consultants Booz Allen is very excited and pleased to have won the first round of the NY Prize Competition. The microgrid concept is something we have thought about for a long time and working together we hope to have a very competitive application for round two," said Mayor William Acee.

BAH is a century-old management and technology consulting firm that is fast establishing a position in the community microgrid market. BAH's technology consulting services provide clients with highly skilled experts and engineers who maintain a deep knowledge of leading technologies. Their consultants combine specialized skills with the firm's proven problem-solving approach, ensuring that we understand a client's mission and objectives.

NY Prize is a first-in-the-nation competition sponsored by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) in support of Governor Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision plan (REV), to build a cleaner, more resilient, and more affordable energy system for New York. Under this vision, the Governor intends to modernize the reliability, resiliency, and environmental footprint of New York's energy infrastructure and reduce the economic impact of power outages caused by major weather-related events.
