Azure Power Commissions First Phase of 14 MW Solar Rooftop Allocation for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation

Azure Power has installed the first phase of a 14 MW solar rooftop allocation for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The system was installed at the Sultanpur facility at a tariff of Rs.5.55 (~$0.081)/kWh for 25 years.

The remaining phases will be installed on metro stations and on the tops of metro coaches owned and operated by DMRC. The DMRC will provide a total subsidy of Rs.167.4 million (~$2.51 million) to Azure Power for the entire 14 MW.

The entire capacity will be commissioned by end of third quarter of 2017, stated an official at Azure Power.

“The power generated from solar energy will not only fulfill our energy requirements but will also help in making the city cleaner and greener,” stated Anup Kumar Gupta, Director (Electrical), DMRC. It is a step towards achieving the DMRC target of 50 MW of rooftop solar on flat and curved roofs across metro stations, train depots and other buildings owned by DMRC.

According to Mercom’s research, Azure Power has 17.5 MW of rooftop solar in operation and 35 MW under development and pipeline.
