Solar Alliance 500kW Community Solar Project Featured at Clinton Global Initiative

Solar Alliance Energy, Inc. is pleased to announce its Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action called "From Coal to Solar & Storage: Education Through Innovation" was featured during the breakout session "How Energy Can Spark Global Prosperity". CGI - an initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation - convenes global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges.

At the 2016 CGI Annual Meeting in New York, Solar Alliance announced its commitment to build an economic 500 kW community solar generation and battery storage project in Southern Illinois that will include a solar industry workforce redevelopment program for unemployed former coal industry workers.

"Solar energy can serve as a vehicle for change, helping transform communities burdened with high energy costs and high unemployment into centers of innovation, prosperity, and hope," said Solar Alliance Chairman and CEO Jason Bak, who has been a member of the Clinton Global Initiative since 2006. "This project will target a community in Illinois impacted by high electricity rates and high unemployment in the coal sector. The pilot project will strengthen the community by providing clean solar power, resilient battery backup, and lower electricity costs, while building capacity and providing a high value skill set to an underemployed workforce."

This commitment addresses several interconnected issues: the high cost of energy, underemployment in the coal industry, air pollution caused by fossil fuel-burning power plants, rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the need to integrate renewable energy sources into utility systems. Among basic necessities, increases in residential energy costs have the most regressive impact on low-income households.

"This commitment represents an incredible opportunity to help transition underemployed coal workers into the solar industry and develop new skills. Solar Alliance believes solar energy -- residential, commercial and industrial -- will play a critical role in transforming the energy landscape in the United States. Our goal is to is to install solar on every available rooftop in America and ensure everyone experiences the benefits of that solar transformation," concluded Chairman and CEO Bak.
