NV5 Performs Construction Quality Control Services for Multi-Billion Dollar DOE Nuclear Waste Treatment Plant

Nuclear - Oct 5, 2015

NV5 Holdings, a provider of professional and technical engineering and consulting solutions, announced today that it was awarded full contractual responsibility for the quality control services subcontracted by Bechtel National, Inc., which includes $1.5 million of estimated revenues in 2015 to support the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) nuclear cleanup effort at the Hanford Reservation located near Richland, Washington. The Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) is being designed and constructed in compliance with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1). In accordance with our NQA-1 criteria, NV5 will be performing quality control field and laboratory testing and construction materials inspection services at this highly secured nuclear facility.

Bechtel is one of the primary contractors to the DOE Office of River Protection and has been charged with the design, construction, and startup of the Hanford WTP, which is one of the largest of its kind in the world. When complete, the WTP will transform 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical wastes currently stored in underground tanks at Hanford into a stable glass form for permanent disposal.

"Our CQA group has a long and successful history working with Bechtel around the country and internationally," said Dickerson Wright, PE, Chairman and CEO of NV5."

"NV5 successfully obtained this contract in large measure because of the excellent credentials and performance of our on-site laboratory personnel and project management team based in Albuquerque, and the acceptance of NV5's NQA-1 program. NV5's ability to bring a qualified NQA-1 program to market is a unique discriminator within the CQA and professional engineering services industry that allows us to perform a range of construction materials testing and inspection, geotechnical engineering, and design services for nuclear power plants, fuel processing facilities, and national laboratories," said Paul Fensterer, COO of Nuclear and Environmental Services at NV5.

John North, PE, GE, Vice President for Nuclear Services and NV5's WTP Site Manager, added "Novation of this contract to NV5 is consistent with NV5's commitment and desire to continually provide high quality engineering and construction testing services to Bechtel and other design/construct firms in both the DOE nuclear and commercial nuclear power industry."
