Photon Energy Strengthens Position As Leading Satcon Service Provider

Photon Energy Operations, a division of global lifecycle-oriented power solutions provider Photon Energy, is strengthening its position on the market by taking over maintenance contracts for Satcon inverters at power plants with a total capacity of 25 MWp. The company already provides full O&M services in seven countries across two continents and maintenance services for Satcon inverters worth approx. 100 MWp across Europe.

“We aim to establish long-term service relationships with customers by offering them cost-effective services including the option of remote support, repair of faulty components and quick, diversified access to spare parts at low prices”, says CEO Georg Hotar. Photon Energy has developed its own software for the remote servicing of inverters, lowering the need for on-site maintenance interventions. At the same time the need for regular preventive maintenance should not be underestimated.

For investors whose power plants run on central inverters manufactured by the now defunct Satcon, Photon Energy Operations is the logical choice. Photon Energy has taken on board former key Satcon engineers who between them have commissioned over 130 MWp of Satcon inverters all over Europe. After the former manufacturer closed shop, Photon Energy Operations moved quickly and secured both key personnel and access to spare parts as well as refurbished equipment. “Who else would you rather have taking care of your inverters than the people who actually installed them and know them inside out?” says Georg Hotar, CEO of Photon Energy.

“From our experience of servicing more than 100 MWp of Satcon inverters we know that almost every central inverter is unique and was built and installed to certain specifications”, explains Pavel Laurinec, Technical Manager Central Inverters at Photon Energy Operations. “Investors need to know that in many cases there is no need to buy new components”, Laurinec adds. “A DPCB board for example is an extremely expensive spare part, but faulty boards can be repaired, which keeps costs down and also represents a more sustainable service approach”, he adds.

One of the most common issues that was overlooked during the installation are poorly sealed AC and DC cable entries or missing bottom covers.  “Insufficiently sealed inverters are often exposed to increased humidity leading to a shorter lifespan, as well as rodent infestation which causes internal wiring damage”, Pavel Laurinec explains.
